Is it tacky for an adult who has finished college?
to have a graduation party and expect gifts? By “expect” I mean there wasn’t a “no gifts” clause on the invitations. We are talking about a married adult with kids. I have a relative who feels even having a party for this person is tacky let alone not having a no gifts clause on the invites. I would like other people’s opinions.
I am not begrudging anyone anything. I said it was a relative. try reading the question thoroughly before answering.
First, I don’t think it’s tacky for them to have a little celebration for themselves. My brother’s gf’s mom just had one last year upon her graduation from college, it was a big deal to her (she’s older, like in her 50′s). Second, I honestly wouldn’t think anything of an invitation not stating “no gifts”. Then again, it’s not like I go to parties all the time, so maybe I’m just naive. I wouldn’t think that the person would be expecting gifts, I would just think that they are having a get-together celebration, and do what I was comfortable with as far as bringing a gift or not. The reason they may not have stated “no gifts” specifically is because maybe it never crossed their mind that people may bring them, or maybe they didn’t want to state no gifts because then people would look down on them for even thinking about gifts in the first place. LOL Does anything I said make any sense? I think I just confused myself. Anyway, I always bring a card at least, I think something small like others mentioned would be a nice gesture, but definitely not by any means necessary!
