Wife refuses gift…?


I arranged a special gift for my wife 50th – custom fitting for a new set of golf clubs. At the fitting appointment she took me aside, and basically said, Why would you think I’d want this? She loves to golf and owns several $200 – 400 clubs, it’s not a money thing. I was so humiliated, I just started to stammer and (argk!) cry – we left without explanation.

I realized that I was so upset because my wife is a control freak – and she felt i needed to “clear” the gift with her before purchasing – again, we can EASILY afford it; She drops $5000 without even blinking or consulting with me, but I can’t spend any money – EVEN on her – w/o asking first? I am so hurt and conflicted… birthday in a few days and I feel like handing her a blank check instead of any gift…
